Built in 1878 by John C. Lewis, The Lewis House survives today as it did back then, perhaps the most stately Victorian home in Whitehall, MI. One of the few Michigan bed and breakfasts listed on the National Register of Historic Places, our home is authentic through and through yet modernized to provide you, our guest, with all the comforts and amenities you expect.
The Lewis House Bed & Breakfast has gone through an extensive 6-year bottom-to-top renovation designed to ensure your comfort and to restore the home to its original grandeur with all the charm and elegance of the late Victorian period. All of our second-floor guest rooms are neatly appointed and all have their own spacious private bathroom, individual climate control, high ceilings, large, original windows and hardwood floors. On the main floor, the parlor, library, dining room and bistro room are furnished with quality and comfort in mind. You can cozy up with a book, enjoy a cup of tea or engage in a game of checkers. Whatever your pleasure, you will want to stay awhile!
Each morning you can look forward to a delicious hot breakfast served in the formal dining room. We source fresh organic produce and meats locally as often as possible, prepare them magnificently, and serve you graciously. Greg maintains fantastic gardens and we love to serve the fruits – or rather, vegetables – of his labor whenever possible! Dietary restrictions are happily accommodated and seconds are always available.
The Lewis House Bed & Breakfast is situated on a bluff overlooking beautiful White Lake and has amazing views of the sunset. It is within walking distance of the charming downtowns of Whitehall and Montague with great restaurants, shops and a micro-brewery. The historic Howmet Playhouse is right next door and the Hart-Montague bike and walking trail is just across the street.
The modern historic Lewis House has it all – great location, outstanding accommodations and delicious breakfasts worth getting up for. Come stay with us for an unforgettable getaway at one of the most elegant Victorian homes in Michigan.
The Hillside Cottage is a great spot for your relaxing Michigan getaway. The private one bedroom cottage is adjacent to The Lewis House Bed & Breakfast and its large living room and kitchen picture windows provide some of the best views of White Lake from the property! The cottage has been fully renovated and is equipped to provide all the comforts you would expect from your vacation getaway while maintaining the cozy space, knotty pine walls and hardwood floors of the 1950’s caretakers cottage built from the scrap lumber from the original carriage house. The comfortably appointed Hillside Cottage offers a private entrance, A/C, full kitchen and (did we mention?) spectacular views of White Lake. Book a stay at The Hillside Cottage. You will love it.
