Inside the Inn

Built in 1878, the home has undergone extensive renovations designed to enhance comfort while restoring its original late-Victorian grandeur. High ceilings, large original windows, and hardwood floors throughout reflect the craftsmanship and elegance of the period. The living room, dining room, library, and bistro room serve as inviting shared spaces where guests are encouraged to relax and linger. Throughout the house, thoughtful details and careful design choices reflect the care and attention Debi and Greg have devoted to preserving both the beauty and spirit of The Lewis House.

The Gardens, Grounds and Views

The Lewis House is set in a picturesque lakeside setting, with sweeping views of White Lake from the rear of the home. Carefully maintained lawns and gardens invite guests to linger outdoors and take in the scenery throughout the day. On select mornings, a complimentary breakfast may be enjoyed on the back patio, where boats glide in and out of the nearby marina. In the evenings, guests often gather on the hilltop deck, relaxing under the open sky and enjoying the peaceful rhythm of the water.

From Our Guests: The Lewis House deserves 10 stars.Debi and Greg have created the most wonderful B&B at The Lewis House, and they’re the consummate hosts. They’ve completely remodeled this stately mansion in a gorgeous way, and don’t mind sharing their experiences with guests. The home, the gardens, the carriage house, and the views all add up to a first class experience in every way. It sounds trite, but they’ve truly thought of everything. Our room – The Lake Room – was immense and has an incredible bathroom. Breakfast was absolutely unbelievable, especially considering that they worked with a Vegan and a Gluten Free guest. They were able to harvest fabulous things from their garden and incorporate them into an imaginative meal that everyone loved… Well Done, and Thank You Debi and Greg!

Meet Debi and Greg

Innkeepers Debi and Greg

Greg and Debi Hillebrand first discovered Whitehall in the summer of 2009 while visiting the area after Greg’s high school reunion in Davison. They were immediately drawn to the charm of the town and the beauty of the White Lake area. Later that year, they purchased The Lewis House with the intention of restoring it to its former elegance. What began as a simple plan to “fix it up” evolved into a six-year journey of research, learning, and careful restoration. After countless decisions, revisions, and a deep commitment to honoring the home’s history, The Lewis House welcomed its first guests in June of 2015. Today, Greg and Debi continue to care for the house as both stewards and hosts, sharing its history, character, and warmth with those who come to experience it.
